Meet Our Teachers
Susan Richards
Mrs. Richards began her career at Carter in 2010. She received her BA in Early Childhood Ed from William Paterson University in New Jersey. After moving to the Boston area, she continued her education and received her Director II Certification. Mrs. Richards is married and has two adult children. When not at Carter, she enjoys knitting, reading, and gardening.

Ann Andersen
Mrs. Andersen has been a lead teacher at Carter since 1999. She is married with three young adult children all of whom began their Needham education at Carter. She has her BA in Elementary Education from Boston College. When not teaching our 4-5 year olds, she enjoys walking, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

Donna Tashjian
Mrs. Tashjian began her teaching career in September of 1999. After receiving her BA from U. Mass Boston, she continued her education to become lead teacher certified through EEC. She has always enjoyed being a teacher in our 4-5 year old classes. All three of her adult children attended Carter, and when she's not teaching she enjoys cooking, reading, and the beaches of Cape Cod.

Claire Scully
Mrs. Scully lives in Needham and is married with two children who attended Carter Nursery School. After graduating Framingham State, she taught in Medfield, Medford, Wellesley, and Palm Beach, FL schools. After staying at home to raise her children, she came to Carter to rekindle her career. Outside of school she enjoys spending time with her family, camping, traveling, cooking, and hanging out at the beach.

Julia Ghorbi
Mrs. Ghorbi is a West Roxbury resident, who upon receiving a B.S. in Management from Suffolk University, worked several years in retail management. After taking some time off to raise her three sons, she began working in the Early Childhood field in 2007. EEC Lead Teacher certified, she has previously taught in pre-schools in West Roxbury and Newton. In their spare time, Mrs. Ghorbi and her husband enjoy cheering on Boston sports teams, visiting family and going to the beach.

Angela Nelson
Mrs. Nelson has been teaching at Carter since 1997. She worked in the "newly developed" Extended Day program for two years before moving to the 3-year-old program. She graduated from UMASS-Boston with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and began working toward her Masters. She is also lead teacher certified through the EEC. She is married and has two grown children, both college grads and Carter alumni. When not working she likes to spend time with family and friends and enjoys life by the ocean.

Sue Cotton
Mrs. Cotton has been a teacher at Carter since 2001, and has been in the Carter 3's since 2002. She is married with three children who all attended Carter. Her children are at various stages of their lives. She has a Bachelors degree from Bentley University and is a state certified teacher through the EEC. In her free time she likes to read, walk, and spend time in New Hampshire.

Anne Finucane
Mrs. Finucane has been an Extended Day teacher since January 2010. She graduated from Allegheny College in 1988 with a B.S. in Economics and worked in the mutual fund industry for twelve years. Mrs. Finucane was a stay-at-home mom during the time her three children attended Carter.  She lives in Needham and, in addition to volunteering at her children's schools and on the board of the Needham Education Foundation, she enjoys walking, running, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Howarth lives in Needham with her husband and two boys both of whom attended Carter Nursery School. She received her BA from Rowan University. She was a stay at home mom and when the opportunity opened to be an Extended Day & Floater teacher she was very excited.  She loves being outdoors, playing sports and spending time with her friends and family. She is excited to join the Carter Team this year.

Erin is a mom of three Carter Nursery School students - two who have graduated and one son who is currently in the Carter 3s program. She is an attorney at DLA Piper. Erin is also the PTC Co-President at Hillside Elementary School. 

Rebecca is a mom of three Carter Nursery School students - two who have graduated  and are now students at St. Joseph Elementary School, and one son who is currently in the Carter 3s program. She is a former attorney and now stays home with her children.
  
Kate is a mom of two. Her daughter is in the Carter 3s program and her son will be an upcoming student in the future. Kate is responsible for the Global Tax Reporting at Raytheon Company and is a certified public accountant.

Erin is a mom of three. Her two older children are graduates of Carter Nursery School and are now at Hillside Elementary School. Her youngest daughter will start at Carter this Fall. Erin is a former elementary school teacher and now stays home with her children. Erin is also currently on staff at her church in family ministry.

Meghan is a mom of three children. Her oldest is a student in the Carter 4s program. Her younger two children are looking forward to being Carter students in the future. Meghan is a School Counselor in Newton.


 
Lauren is a mom of three with her two oldest children being graduates of Carter Nursery School and now at Newman Elementary School. Her youngest son will be joining the Carter family when he turns three years old next Fall. Lauren is a former teacher and now stays home with her children.

Anne has been an Extended Day teacher since January 2010. She was a stay-at-home mom during the time her three children attended Carter and was excited when the opportunity arose to join the staff. She lives in Needham and enjoys volunteering at her kid's schools and at other organizations in town.

Susan is a mom of two boys. She raised her family in Needham and loves being part of the community again as the Director of Carter Nursery School.
